Wonder why Disney doubts Hm Stuff sells. We all seem to be interested here.



Well, yeah, but this is a kind of un-scientific way to judge the amount of interest in HM stuff that there is in the general Disney-attending population. If we weren't all HM fans to some degree, we wouldn't be here at all. So there's hardly an objective opinion here (mine included.) Disney's looking to market to the masses. Sort of the opposite of butts in seats: items walking out the gate. Pins are small and easily portable (plus extremely cheap to create, even when you take the artist's salary into account), thus sell well and are a hole with no bottom when it comes to profit. HM figures in a 10 inch square box, however, are going to only appeal to a limited fan base, and are more than likely considered too ungainly for purchase by a family that's flying back to, say, Idaho. Not that I have anything against Idaho. It's just that pins pack better. T-shirts pack better (even ones with unfortunate cap sleeves).
and, a lot of souvenirs don't play well after you've gotten them out of the theme park. Like all those light things they sell right before the parades? Complete crap, then you have to find something to do with it. Once you're not exposed to the thing that got an emotional reaction from you any more (ie, you can't get on the ride, b/c you're back home in Idaho), you no longer feel the connection to the item you bought. And we've probably all had that bizarrely awkward conversation with someone who's not a big fan about why a particular collectible is so great, so funny, so appropriate, so whatever.
