If so, when and how much would it cost? Also, I will be at the MK in early October. Have never been there this time of year, so I'm looking forward to the Halloween theming throughout the park. Is there anything special related to the HM this time of year? I've seen something called Mickey's not-so-scary Halloween Party, but that just sounds like a kid's trick-or-treat / character event. Would the HM be open for backstage tours?

I know that doesn't help you, though. Mickey's Not So Scary is AWESOME, by the way, and really worth the price. Yes, there is trick-or-treating-- but I'm not going to pass up Ghiradelli chocolate. Also, the park closes early on those days for people who don't have the wristbands (7PM). The parade is excellent, with lots of Haunted Mansion theming (the HHGs get their own float, ballroom dancers, butlers...). The villains are out to meet and greet, and our very own Ghost Host hosts whole whole event with his disembodied presence-- including the special fireworks Happy Hallowishes (that features not only the Ghost Host, but lots of villains including Ursula, Jafar, and Oogie Boogie to name a few). Plus, after the fireworks, you leave the castle area listening to a familiar voice call: "Hurry back... hurry ba~ack..."

I know that doesn't help you, though. Thanks BWB. My wife worked as a ride steward on Buzz Lightyear to help put herself through college, but that was a while ago. We did once get to go through the Servant's Quarters courtesy of a friend of hers who worked at the HM. May have just been the handicapped entrance, since, from what I recall, it gets you immediately into the chamber before the stretching room. No Extra Magic Hours. That explains it. Sounds neat, but a little pricey. Some day, I hope I can get in on a "lights on" walk-through of the HM. I'm pretty sure DoomBuggies.com has arranged tours like this. Anyone here ever been to one? Mike

Disney likes to keep the magic as magic. That said, there have been special opportunities in the past. These are typically very limited events. Your best bet is to keep checking doombuggies.com. If something comes up, you'll hear about it here first.

The easiest (and certainly the cheapest) way to get a backstage tour of the mansion is to become a cast member or to win a contest.

The MNSSH party sounds fun, like the specialized parade plus fireworks and a Halloween vibe. But I'd mostly be interested in seeing the Halloween HM / MK decorations, and I'll be able to see those gratis during the day. Would be fun to work the HM as a cast member--maybe some day when I retire. But isn't the HM one of the most sought after attractions to work at? For one reason because you don't have to do the "have a magical day" thing. I was a little concerned when I heard a rumor, just before the MK HM refurb, that HM cast members were now going to have to break out of character and be happy go lucky around guests. Last time I went, that certainly wasn't the case. I didn't notice any change in cast member behavior at the HM. Anyone been to Universal's Horror Nights? There is quite a waiting list to get trained there. Also, you don't really get a good feel of the Halloween atmosphere during the day with the Mansion. They start turning on the lights at 6:30 and playing the music, but its still daylight.

All the buildings from town square and up main street are bathed in orange, green and purple lighting. Almost every upper window has a lit jack-o-lantern inside. The various Halloween-themed spotlights that play across the Main street bldgs and pavement, and Cinderella's castle looks a bit sinister on these nights, dare I say. Save your cash if you're thinking about UniHN. Super-crowded. They way over-sell. An hour-plus wait just to get through one haunted house. You're herded through like a conga-line cattle-drive, so any scares up ahead are spoiled before you get to them. There are liquor stands about the place, so be prepared for belligerence, line cutting and puddles of vomit hither and yon. An over-all lousy experience. Too much of the yahoo-crowd for me, thanks. MNSSHP may be for kids, but aren't we all once we get through the turnstiles? ...Boo...to...You! (Boy, that little ditty sticks around for days after the fact! )

Ugh, yeah, I had the same exact experience when I went. I waited for hours in lines only to get into some houses that had literally nothing except Hefty bag walls and some cushions hanging from the ceiling. I was furious! Luckily I'd been invited to go with a friend as part of a birthday party for him and I didn't have to pay. The only thing I liked about HHN was the Bill and Ted Show. But it didn't make up for the lack of fun scares. My sister had gone to HHN a couple of times before I had, and had basically told me the same thing about both trips. I was hoping that the years she went had just been weak events, but boy was I proven wrong. We've both sworn never to give it another chance. However, sis and I had a blast at Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens in Tampa the year before last. We're planning on going again this year. It wasn't ridiculously packed (30 minutes tops for lines, and that was for only one of the houses because someone got sick and they had to close it for cleaning), the coasters were still open for great night time rides, and we saw many security officers patrolling the park. We had no problems with people cutting in the lines. The actors there had great senses of humor. I really can't say enough how much fun we had.
