The Haunted Castle at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk |

Recently took a trip to the boardwalk, having not been in years and of course I was drawn to this ride. Sadly, it's inside very worn down, lighting and
sound don't match at all the jump out figures, and the photos reveal whole areas where the ride isn't even lit at all, just pitch black, and there is
actual set dressing and figures in these areas. Quite the cliche of the broken down haunted house fair ride, sadly. The ride vehicles are pretty cool though.

Pretty cool. Sort of ghetto doombuggies.

i just watched it on youtube. kinda cheesy in my opinion, it made me laugh how the people filming it would freak out.

I love how these cheesy haunted house rides make NO sense whatsoever. And what the heck is that thing in the tenth picture down? It looks like a lecherous
bear-wolf looking for little red riding hood. *shudders* I kinda dig the kitchen scene, though.

Miss Connie wrote: Nope, no sense....i think it's supposed to be a werewolf, but it like when lights up, it has the one working light/sound combo plus placement to
startle, but it lights up and it's got that goofy look on it's face and the scarf. Totally ridiculous. And yes, the kitchen scene is the best
realized...even though it's filthy, just look at the layer of black grease on the props. That is my current desktop wallpaper actually, that photo.

light bulbs or fix broken animation in the figures...oh well, it's the prime example of the decrepit dark ride heh

Looks better than most of those "haunted" rides at fairs and stuff. Usually they are just pitch black hahaha which is only scary to those that are
afraid of the dark.

I grew up in Santa Cruz and the Haunted Castle has always been my favorite ride there. Lately it has been in some disrepair, but about ten years ago it was
pretty great. For a while they even had this great demon and three female vultures that sang 'the Monster Mash' while you waited in the line, and
before that was another scary demon that would 'talk' to the people that waited in line. I even remember a period of time when they would just play
Nightmare Before Christmas music out front. With all of the animatronics and lights working it can be a little scary. Especially the random air that blows on
you.
I live in New York City now and I can tell you it's much better than the Coney Island haunted house rides. Hopefully someday it will be restored (although that seems doubtful with the way the whole park is going). |

I have had fun in the past riding the "ghetto doom buggies" that just makes me laugh, that is just so funny! Only at the time, I would not consider
the ride to be like that. It was last year, that I visited the haunted castle, and it definitely was in better shape overall from what it sounds to be at this
time. That is too bad, for it can be such a fun and scary ride in the right hands.
Has anyone visited Fright Walk? it is not far from The Haunted Castle. Requires a separate admission. It is a fun dark attraction to walk through. You can walk at your own pace, which is something I totally appreciate, because you never feel hurried along. Fright Walk is not scary to me, but then nothing fake is. It is real life that scares the crapola out of me! I love to take a good look at all of the decor, props, and animatronics (Minimal at best) of both FW and HC I would love to be able to learn enough about basic animatronics, so I could see personally about resurrecting The Haunted Castle, and make it even more entertaining from Fright Walk. |

Hatbox,
I cannot get any of your images to download at all. Very frustrating! Do you have photo bucket, or another source where a person can view your photographs? I can remember well enough what I had seen last year, and the year before, etc. however, I would like to see what the ride looks like now. TIA! |

So any visitors to Fright Walk then? If so, what did you think? How did you like it?
