I was just in Disney World this past week and didn't notice this sign, wish I did though! I'll have to look for it next time.

I did notice when I was there in early september, in place of where the sign was, they had put up those "area closed" walls. Is it possible they
took out the sign

The sign is still there, at least it was last Wednesday (the 15th). I took pictures just in case they do take it down. I asked my tour guide about it since I
was on the Keys to the Kingdom tour. He said that no one, not even imagineers, can give a reason for it being there.

plus the head of the medium found in the sitting room (was it found inside of a glass ball?) could have been Leota!

It was there last week! As soon as I get my pics uploaded, I can post it again. You know, if anyone needs to see it. But we were there Halloween week, and it
was in front of Splash Mountain, and on the other side of the "area closed" walls.
BTW, does anyone else think that's a lot of work just to remove a fry stand? The wall is epic, and so is the pile of dirt behind it. ~robin

They probably have buried gas lines and or tanks. That stuff takes more prcise demo work to keep the EPA people happy.

You got that right. If they can be kept happy at all.
But in that case, should they really be using heavy yellow equipment to dig up gas lines or tanks? Unless the result they're trying for is an earth-shattering kaboom? Additionally, if it takes that much gas to make french fries, should we be eating them at all? ~robin

Well, you figure they keep those fry vats running at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Since they contain hazardous materials, they need to
be buried pretty deep. The gas would likely be drained before demolition began, so there is little danger, but lots of Earth to remove, with little time to do
it in, because Disney doesn't want that ugly mess in sight of the paying visitors. It just isn't very magical

Not for as long as it's been there. That's a long long long long long long long long long long payoff on a practical joke. More likely they had a
campaign planned, then scrapped it in favor of something else, and the sign just stayed.

I noticed the sign when I was there back in July, but totally forgot about it, and didnt have my camera at the time.
Thanks for the interesting back story on it! And they are finally getting rid of that fry cart?! Man, it was SUCH an eye sore... However, the Keys to the Kingdom guide gave us that cool "backstory" on it when we were there |

That sign's been there for as long as I can remember Splash Mountain being there. I think it's merely a little touch of scenery added to improve the
atmosphere of Frontierland. Those directional signs pop up in other places, and it's interesting to see that some spooked settler took it upon themselves
to carve out the Mansion's original title and replace it with "Haunted." Just a clever touch, adding to the mythology of the land. Everybody
knows that old Mansion on the hill is haunted, after all. Just a very small expression of that common knowledge within the Disney universe.
