So, what rides DO make you leave an embarrasing stain (and/or puddle) on the seat of the ride vehicle?

After flipping through the 'what Disney ride freaked you out as a kid?' topic, I was inspired to launch this jewel.

i never really went on any extreme rides. The most extreme I rode were probably Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Dinosaur!, but those weren't awful

I don't do roller coasters, because I hate extreme drops. I also hate driving in the mountains for the same reason.

Thanks for saying that, Capt. I think I don't get the point of Test Track for the same reason: too much like driving around home.

Hmm...
The only ride I can think of that I haven't worked up the courage to go on and have refused to go on would be the Sky-Coaster. You're laying down in a harness on your stomach, it pulls you back and up a hundred feet or so into the air, and then lets you go. It's basically like a free fall. There's one at Old Town, a little permanent carnival type amusement park in Florida. I just can't look at that thing and NOT think of it hitting one of the two poles you go between. (I think one unfortunate rider did. I'm not sure which park it was at, though.) Oh, and Ferris wheels with the swinging seats where you have a lap bar and your legs dangle down. I nearly fell out of one of those when I was little, and have hated them ever since. I'll get on any roller coaster, any dark ride, and just about any thrill ride, but can't do Sky-Coaster or those Ferris wheels. *shudders* |

I can handle big thunder mountain railroad, and just about any motion simulator ride, but any ride that involves speed and/or heights is
officially off the list for me. I especially detest 'dark coasters' because the extreme speed combined with not knowing where the heck the ride is
going to go next is just too much for me. And Splash Mountain was a LOT less fun than I thought it would be because with even the smallest drops, I got this
weird 'dizzy' feeling in my head that felt like I was going to pass out any second. As a general rule, if a ride gives me greater physical discomfort
than the tightness of the restraints, and I'm relieved when the ride is over and feel no sense of adrenaline euphoria, I'm not going on that ride ever
again.
Also, rides tht have a murder record I generally avoid. Case in point; Mission: Space. Or, as I now affectionately refer to it, "the motion simulator ride from hell". I've never actually BEEN on it, but as I already mentioned, it's amazing just how much your mind can create a horrific monster of a ride just out of what you've read and seen of it. I chickened out at the queue this past February. I know that it's probably the most cutting edge ride on the planet, but couldn't they have just kept Horizons for a couple more years amidst some public whining to give it a Meet the Robinsons makeover? Would that have been so awful? That way, those two people it killed would still be alive, tell me what's wrong with that! Now, Expedition Everest... that looks FUN! Because I see it as just a bigger, faster version of Big Thunder, which I enjoyed immensely. Also I'm an exotic culture art freak, so getting up close to the genuine Tibetan artifacts in the queue would be a big plus. Also Dinosaur looks awesome, and just scary enough for me to enjoy but not overwhelm.

Really? You didn't like Splash Mountain? I will be the first to admit that I wish the chicken exit was right before the big drop, but the rest
of the ride is so cute! Or it could possibly be that I'm just way to into Song of the South (don't. I know. Trust me. In addition, the stories in
song of the south bear little to no resemblance to the actual Uncle Remus tales, so I'm guessing it all evens out.)
I've never been on Mission: Space either. The Space & Rocket center in Huntsville, AL, had a ride almost exactly like it when I was a kid. I guess. Still haven't been on Mission: Space, but they had a 3G motion simulator with a story that landed you on the moon or something. And I couldn't be in the same parking lot with that ride after I turned about 14. No idea why. If you haven't done Expedition Everest, you really should. I hate roller coasters, but that one is way too cool. The queue is cool, the set up is cool, the Yeti is AMAZING. But be prepared, you spend a long part of your journey going backwards in a very wide circle. On the other hand, there's no water at the end. To stay in topic: I still hate Snow White's Scary Adventure. Still. robin

Going fast and taking corners is one thing, and vertical drops are another. That said, Big Thunder is a blast! I don't mind Space Mountain either. I like
Splash Mountain, but only because of the Song of the South theme... must be a Southern thing. Everest looks cool, because of the theme, but then they went and
added the 90' vertical drops. Oh well.

Really? Is that new? Or did I just completely miss it the first time?
Because I distinctly remember while climbing up the hill, looking over Florida straight into Cuba, turning to my friend and saying "I've changed my mind, I'd like to get off the ride. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Or words to that effect. Maybe I do remember the vertical drop, then. robin

The only rides that actually frighten me are the temporary ones put together by drug addicts at state fairs. But I have better sense than to ride them...most
of the time.

I can handle anything but rollar coasters that go upside down and this REALLY scarylookin coaster at Cedar Point. This thing goes up 410 ft in the air,
straight up at 120mph, goes over a crest and brings you back straight down at the same speed. This thing was scary to WATCH, least of all get on. If you wnat a
pic, just go to Google and type in Top Thrill Dragster.
And please Disney, DON'T GIVE MISSION SPACE A MEET THE ROBINSONS MAKEOVER OR I WILL DIE. Seriously, Epcot is, like, the ONLY park without a TON of cartoon characters EVERYWHERE. Not that that's a bad thing, but the Three Cabaeros(or however you say it) in the Rio de Tiempo is ENOUGH. If they ever do that to Maelstrom, I'll scream. |

Nothings to EXTREEEEEME at any of the Disney parks for me (that being said, I don't plan on going back on Mission Space as I was dizzy and lightheaded
afterwards), but CANIVAL rides are a different matter.... The bungie slingshot blasphemy and the two spinning drums at opposite ends of a support arm come to
mind...

The one ride that made me nervous (though not truly terrified) was at the old Elitch Gardens theme park in Denver. It was called the Mine Shaft, and reminded
me of a spinning giant steel drum that opened at the top. A group of people would go in, the door would be latched shut, and we were told to stand against the
walls and stare straight ahead (ala Mission Space, without all the cool dohickies). The ride would start spinning, and at a certain point the operator would
call down (via microphone) to "get ready", and the floor would drop. And there we'd all be, plastered several feet up on the wall...just spinning
around and around.
I think the last time I went on it was shortly before the park closed for relocation. The ride was never included in the new park. I'm thankful of that (one doesn't need to spin THAT much). |

Kings Dominion wayyyyyy back in the 80's had the same ride deep down in a mountain called the "Time Shaft" Sounds about the same thing.
The closed it down not because it's popularity wained, but becuase the room could not get up to full speed it needed to, and people kept sliding down into the pit of the floor that dropped out. No injuries ever occured, but they didn't want to spend the money to replace the engine. |

The scariest thing about Maelstrom is that movie at the end. If the Norwegians thought that ride was good for public relations, I think they missed the mark.
I left thinking that Norway is full of Viking berzerkers working on oil rigs. On second thought, maybe it did work... I totally wanna go to Norway now!

I am no longer terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought, but Magic Mountain's Colossus, holds a special little place of terror. Back before
Warner bought them out I rode this coaster and the lap bar "failed" as we were plunging down the first big drop it sprang up and I came out of the
seat and almost over the back of the car. My dad had to hold me in by my feet as I whipped around. Being the kind of coaster it is, the ride operators
didn't see what happened and I went through the entire ride gripping to anything I could find for dear life. The climax was because they didn't see
what happened, they did not believe me or my dad and sent out more people in the same car after us. I was livid that they could be so callous to safety.
Later after Warner bought the park, I went back and was visibly trembling from head to foot as I waited in line to get over my fear of this coaster. Now it is one of my favorite coasters, I re-rode it 12 times in a row to make sure that I was over this fear, but I do still get a twinge of it when I ride a big coaster. Mr Toad sort of scares me too, but not for the usual reasons. I sort of have to hold my breath before we hit the hell part, because with my athsma I find it difficult to breathe with all the steam stuff they have going on in there, especially with how the car whips around. I am not sure why this is however, because I can go in steam rooms/saunas but mr toad has this dusty musty smell IN the steam that makes my throat constrict. I will still risk it to ride this awesome attraction, but it does always worry me and scare me a little because I get light headed if I breathe too much in that scene. All that said, I wouldn't change a thing, because I think the steam is such an awesome little physical touch unique to the ride. |
