One of the reasons there was so much more traffic on the server this time was because they were forcing everyone to register individually. I guess we can all see that it was a pretty poor idea. No only did it increase the traffic, it pissed off many people who were only able to get one of the packages they needed (if they got even that!).

I've truly never been so upset to buy tickets to a Disney event as I am right now. I should be excited, but
 I'm still not sure if we'll be going
or not. I hope someone can help.
and yeah, did anyone see how to get on the waiting list? They told us yesterday that there would be an option to do so online today--there wasn't! Why am I not surprised? |

going to be at the Mansion half of the event?

IMHO I think Disney should offer their special event packages in the RSP format. They should let interested parties know in advance how many packages for each
tier they will offer and people could enter their names into a special RSP to purchase the packages. This would prevent a lot of problems due to server and
telephone issues as well as emotional and mental frustration with the whole process. At least everyone would have an equal opportunity to try and obtain a
reservation.

I'm in agreement with Genii. There's absolutely no reason, with today's technology, to handle large numbers of people registering at the same time. Heck, I was involved with a conference last year that had the capacity to handle 500 people at once (and if it was at capacity it was resolved within 2-3 minutes). If Disney can't handle it then they need to farm it out. |

Above and beyond the server, websites, busy phone lines, and assorted glitches, alot of people would still be disappointed because there were not enough tickets. THAT was Disney's biggest mistake. They could have made an exact duplicate of the event for another 1000 people, and scheduled it for the next day. Make another batch of the exact same merchandise for that day. Have registration spread over 4 days instead of 2. Sure, they would be still be swamped with emails and the computer screwups, but as soon as the dust settled there would be twice as many happy customers, and Disney would make twice as much money on the packages and merchandise. If either day wasn't a complete sellout, big deal. Just make adjustments to the arrangements. |

Part of what keeps these events so popular, imho, is the relatively small size. If the event was much bigger, it could be a real headache. I remember trying to
make it the Pirates ride after dinner at one of the Pirate's event.. It was maddening. I'm not thrilled that I wasn't able to get the package I
wanted, but I did get something. And I can still get merchandise, hopefully. My biggest upset was not everyone in our group could get a ticket and that taints
the entire event for me.

Okay.... I did not try to get tickets yesterday or today....my husband did. If he were typing this right now he would be using every swear word in the book. He
is so frustrated and ticked he may pop!! It was the most stressful experience for him. We were able to get one DD package and one HH package, but I'm sorry
that sucks!! The whole buy tickets separately sucked!! Big time! We are still unsure if we even want to attend at all because of all this mess. If they
can't do reservations in a fair and user friendly format what is the event itself going to be like? Will it even be worth it? I would hate to spend all
this money on something and have a terrible time! That right now is my concern. And besides how much fun is it going to be for me while he's able to go to
the seminar and the dinner and I get to sit outside and just hang out? ANd how much fun for him to sit and eat dinner by himself? Why did disney think that
registering separately would go well??
I hope that cake tastes terrible now ........ |

lol..my husband and I joked about that scenario. What if I get the DD package and he doesn't. It was like a showdown at the laptop corral. Both fingers
typing feverishly, each of us eyeballin' the other over our screens...it was the good, the bad, and terribly ugly.

Maybe you can change your HH to DD etc. by calling WDES? I would give it a try. Just say that you were having issues with the site. Which would be true. Just call them. Do you have their number? |

Yes, doubling the price would create less congestion (probably) during the registration process. The law of supply and demand still holds.
I disagree with Ghost's idea about doubling the size of the event: exclusivity is part of what makes it fun to attend (though how exclusive it is when you're sitting in a ballroom with 1200 other people like the last Pirate event in Florida, I don't know). I think raising the price to narrow the audience is a better idea. But we all have a certain level of expectation to go along with price, now, after so many merchandise events. Do I think the top tier packages are going to get the kind of outrageous swag the folks who paid $2000 for the 2004 Happy Haunts Ball got? No. Not for $475. The pricing of this event, and the schedule, are much more in line with the Indiana Jones event, and those commemorative keepsakes were (as has been noted earlier) not exciting. WHY are we all doing this? Because we're Haunted Mansion nuts. We're obsessed. Disney knows they have us by the short and curlies!
