No event, but there was a merchandise release and artist signing that had people lined up clear across the park. Some of the best merchandise didn't even show up and is still trickling in, months later. That's definitely not my idea of a good time. I had at least four friends try to get tickets today and all failed. I'm sure I'd be pretty upset if I didn't get a ticket yesterday or if I was planning on traveling with anyone and they didn't get tickets because of the 1-per-registration limit. For me, while I do collect everything Mansion, I'm not a fan of limited editions within a limited crowd. If the event is already limited to 999 people, why limit the collectibles even further than that? Make everything LE999 and limited to only those who are attending. Make people order in advance and only produce the number of items that are purchased. Then don't sell the rest in the parks later. I personally found the Haunted Mansion Holiday event that I went to rather boring. The opening with Jack and Sally at the Mansion was amusing and it was great to see my name in the attic, but the rest of the event was very dull. For this 40th event, I think the seminar will be great, the dinner will be average, and the ongoing around the Mansion will likely be minor. The merchandise appears to be the leader of this event and at least 2/3 of attendees won't get the coolest stuff. Doesn't make sense to me.

Especially if only half or part of your group got in. I can only imagine how frustrating it is/was. For the angry people who have tickets, but are to ticked to go, please wait a week or two before canceling. You might regret your decision after you calm down. For those who don't want to attend without their partner/friends; also take a moment to consider if you really want the other not to experience the event just because you cannot (or vise-versa). This is also important if you are a collector. 5 years from now you will have forgotten much of the event, but you will still have your keepsakes! It is good that there are other threads for people making arrangements, either by trading tickets or offering to get merchandise. That might be some small comfort for you. And for those of you who are going, please post pictures and videos for those of us who are not! Love, Mom

Even though the madness is over for the online registration process, I'm sure event services are going to be feeling the aftermath for the next few weeks. I'm sure they have a lot of things to sort thru and are trying hard to clean up this mess that the online registration server created. So don't go screaming at them, I'm sure they are doing the best they can. By September, most of the headaches will be forgotten & I'm sure most who attend will enjoy whatever the event turns out to be. I know I'm going to try to have the best time, even knowing I'll probably be on hours long lines to register & pick up stuff. Just remember your love of the Mansion & not how pissed off you are that you can't get that limited edition of 1 stuff. Remember how Walt Disney wanted the Mansion to be- to be enjoyed by all and forget about current management who are now trying to just make money off of it. Whoever goes- have a great time, and for those who don't- the Mansion will still be there for you & your memories and love of it will always be there.

To me, BUYING STUFF is just the icing on the cake. But maybe I am in the minority. Outsourcing the registration process seems to be a MUST at this point.

You know, so they remain loyal customers, look forward to future events and spending more money. Disney could have taken in hundreds of thousands of dollars more on event packages and merchandise. Keep the customers happy and coming back for more.................... 1) Come out with some REAL merchandise, not a list of marginal stuff with only a few really good items 2) Minimum LE100 or higher on all items, so people have an actual chance of buying them 3) Double the size of the event and run it over 2 days What is the end result of this whole fiasco? When the WDW Haunted Mansion 40th comes up 2 years from now, will people even take it seriously? If you have to jump through hoops and be very lucky even to get a ticket, spend time making travel plans, waiting in lines, cost of a flight, taxi, a room, food, and ticket for the event just to have a miniscule chance of getting the items you really want, why bother? If you are one of the lucky few who gets what he wants, then there is the cost of the merchandise itself and the cost to ship it home. Regarding the 40th anniversary of the WDW Mansion two years is a long time and people's memories can be short, especially when they are possessed by thoughts of favorite attractions. Of course a wrench in all this is that it will also be WDW's 40th anniversary as well so it'll be interesting how Disney approaches the whole matter.

No I havent been a member of this site but Ive been a large fan of the HM for years and have spent a LOT of money to Disney in product and premium annual passes. I have gone to Nightmare events in the past - never with this kind of problem. I feel pushed aside. Something Ive been looking forward to for a long time - and tried as hard as anyone else to get tix - I go to Disneyland ALL the time - and live right by it - and I am shut out. They may as well have made it a lottery - like someone said here I totally agree. At least then, it would feel more fair if its going to be so "exclusive". And to me - while not having overcrowded is nice, I for one dont find things more fun based on how many people were shut out "exclusivity". I just want to have fun, I dont need to feel special and unique because others cant share the fun Im having.

One of the reason's I wanted to go so badly was from my disappointment with missing the Swinging Wake last year. But, the root of my frustration lies in the registration process fiasco. If it was a fair and properly working lottery, or it was a line I just got into too late, then I could have more piece in my loss. However, when I started at 10:57 and went through till 12:30 and kept having crashing issues and server unavailable signs and been snapped at by the people on the phone numbers to call for "help", well the words "pathetic", "disappointed", and a few other swear words come to mind. I am very excited, however, to hear of an alternative idea in the works from your folks as you guys always come up with great ideas in the world of "Fandom".

Why wouldn't someone be just as annoyed because they didn't win a place by lottery? With the current system, if it was fixed and functioned properly, you have to make an effort to get your ticket: be there, ready on the computer, at that moment. I would certainly be happier to see the event expanded rather than a lottery for entrance put in place. But I don't feel that way about the merchandise: it has to be very limited in order for it to achieve and maintain its collectible value.

I mainly agree but think if it was lottery, I would be able to accept my loss a bit differently. I guess cause Id GO IN knowing my chances a bit better. Its different to register, and know youre the luck of the draw, than to go through this hour long "I dont know if my computer is keeping me from getting in or the other server", and getting pages of being able to log in, to server down and not knowing what the heck is going on. then everyones already on a waiting list I knew nothing about and they are telling me it was on the page that said it was sold out - well I didnt see a sell out page till about 11:45AM yesterday and it did NOT say how to be put on a waiting list. Maybe there WAS some "sold out" page that said something about it but I know the thing I saw that said sold out did not have a wait list option.

This time it was even more of a mess. But one always sits at the computer, heart pounding, refreshing constantly, typing like a madman (or madwoman), hoping that when you hit the final "submit" button the thing actually goes through. This is not an unusual or novel experience when dealing with Event Services. But this one was even worse and we don't really know why. Did many more people try to register than ever before? Has Disney downscaled its server capacity since the last event to save a few pennies? Who knows? And they're not going to tell us! (Anything they do tell us is not to be taken at face value anyway.) My point is, and it's not in any way meant to demean anyone's feelings of disappointment, is that "going in" (to use your expression), it was widely known that it was going to be crazy. But exactly how crazy we could not have predicted. It's unheard of, around here, for so many die-hard fans of this board, who did all the things they should have done at exactly the right time, to get shut out of an event. No, I don't think a lottery for admission would have assuaged anyone's hard feelings.

There are other ways. With a lottery system, all entries could be collected before hand, with minimal stress to all parties. I still think the events should be bigger, to accomodate a larger number of fans. But, in lieu of that, the lottery system would have saved time for a lot of people.
