Has anybody noticed that there's a scene in the trailer of Coraline that shows a room very similar to the stretching room? Check it out. (it's right after the helicopter ride over the garden)

You're right. I'm sure there had to have been at least one mansion fan working on the film.
And what about that button eye idea? Very creepy and telling.
And once the fires ceased, a shadowy reflection remained, stronger than its original being...

This movie looks weird and cool. Tim Burton-esque

I'm very much looking forward to opening night. I'm making my button necklace today!
I also highly recommend the Coraline book by Neil Gaiman - both the orginal and the graphic novel. And even better (and more mansion-esque) is The Graveyard Book, also by Neil Gaiman. We just finished the audiobook - very creepy and awesome! A young boy raised by spirits in an old English graveyard; what could be better?

It does somewhat look like our beloved stretch room!

I read Coraline last year. It freaked the heck out of me in a good way. It's like a dark, freaky version of Alice in Wonderland. Kinda.

The commercial for it on TV makes it look like a happy-go-lucky little kid movie. Strange.

I am so psyched for his film. How can you not love something written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Henry Selick? I plan on going opening night!

Very cool! Once again, a prime example of what Disney should have done with the Haunted Mansion film, instead of the Eddie Murphy crap they made.

It's interesting that Disney felt the need to insert a family into the HM movie, with out it being anything like the family headed by Raul Julia, and
Angela Huston. Not that having kids as part of the movie, couldn't have been truly creepy. There is, for example a truly creepy movie based on the
"Small World" attraction that was released under the title "Children of the Corn."

Ditto.
I plan to see it (Hopefully this weekend.) But I'm interested in reading both versions of the book. Yesterday at Barnes & Noble I just happened to be seated right across from the section of Neil Gaiman books in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section... but not one copy of Coraline was among them. Total bummer. Well, at least I snagged a copy of the MILK soundtrack! I'm praying that Elfman gets the oscar this year. And I'll be sure to try next time (it should only take a month or less for my Mom to go through those two books she bought yesterday.) "Some people compose, but I decompose. I learned it from a dead man I once knew." ~ Danny Elfman (Interview after a 1987 Performance at The Palace) |

Coraline would probably be shelved in the children's section.

Speaking of Elfman... who did the music for Coraline? Was it him?

(Hmmm....if this posts twice, I apologize.)
The soundtrack was done by Bruno Coulais and much of it was performed by a children's choir. The bits I've heard in the trailers are lovely and creepy. Originally They Might Be Giants were doing the music, but Selick went in another direction with it. There is one TMBG song in the film. http://tmbw.net/wiki/Coraline_Soundtrack |

If any of you are interested, I wrote a blog about the history of stop-motion and the importance of seeing Coraline opening weekend. Here's the link:
