It was a labor of love, and I'm sure the participants made a great effort. But this can be said of a high school play. Some of the drawings were extraordinary, while too many looked like they were the creation of first graders. I was fine with Corey Burton as Walt, and though I too think he should have done the narration, the narrator used wasn't bad. None of the female voices seemed to have had too much experience with dramatic reading, and all too much of their dialogue sounded as if they had read it for the first time. Vintage photographs, such as New Orleans of the 19th Century, and modern photographs taken to look like they were 100 years old, could have added a nice touch to the documentary. The time frame was a problem. Why are people from the thirties and forties dressed in garb that was out of fashion by 1900? The idea that the three hitchhikers were run over at the same time, is silly when one of them is obviously an escaped prisoner. I know I'm going to stop to pick up an individual who has escaped from prison, and has two friends with him. The idea was I guess to wrap it all up so that twenty years have passed since 1942 and when Walt finds the house in 1960. The discussion with the imaginers where apparently Walt made it clear none of their contributions were needed since the house was already haunted, wasn't all that respectful to those whose many hours of sweat and tears made the HM such an incredible experience.
