I've grown up on the East Coast, and only made it to Disneyland in recent years. I always knew the Haunted Mansion and Pirates were different in Disneyland than in Disney World, but was apparently misinformed as to how. I remember reading/seeing a long time ago that the Haunted Mansion in California had an outdoor segment to the ride, where people rode in old-fashioned cars OUTSIDE the ride, through a graveyard, and then ventured inside the ride. This always sounded so cool to me, but as I grew older noone else seemed to know what I was talking about.
It's possible my young mind mis-interpreted the 'graveyard scene', but I swear I saw a film where people were riding outside the Mansion. Does anyone else recall anything like this? Could this have been an early design concept, or a misleading publicity shot? I did always watch Disney on, what was it, Sunday nights, where they used to give teasers of the Park?
Maybe it was childhood imagination, but I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on the subject.
Cheers, JOHN :0)
