Even without the dates staring right at you, the whole place screams 19th century.  You could also argue that the HM went through major conceptual changes between Walt's comments and the finished product, so what he said doesn't count (blasphemous though it may seem).

They make no attempt to address the paradox of new/old.  In fact, they sort of revel in it.  Remember that Paul Frees radio ad when the HM first opened?  Quoting from memory here:  "Something NEW is waiting for you at Disneyland.  It doesn't look like much.  Just a big OLD mansion."  Say what?  You just laugh, shrug, and walk into that new old mansion.
