When it comes to Second Empire architecture becoming closely associated with spooky houses,
Charles Addams was greatly responsible.  Hoppers Victorian house also helped a lot. I wouldn't be
surprised if it was Addams use of second empire for his twisted  family's home, that led Goff to come
up with a concept drawing of a haunted house for Disneyland back in the 1950's. But houses similar to
Hopper's do make appearances in popular culture. In the nightmare sequence of Oklahoma, you have a
similar house to Hopper's featured.  I also remember a similar house to Hopper's having a part in a book
I read called "Homer Price".  Hopper's House is also said to be the inspiration for the Bates House from
Psycho.  As much as the Psycho house is quoted as the inspiration for Phantom Manor, Hopper's house
is some what closer to the final design then the Third Ward School House, or the Bates house from
Psycho.  By the way, the house in  Hopper's painting looks more like Phantom Manor, then the house
that actually inspired the house in the painting. That Walt Disney had an affection for second empire can
be seen on the architecture of Main Street Disneyland in general, and Disneyland City Hall in particular.
