My $0.02.

I didn't say he did anything actually illegal, only that he stole an idea from another artist. I have to say that I find the "tribute" excuse contrived and unconvincing. The original artwork is something long out-of-print, and today it's known only to a relative handful of HM supergeeks and collectors. You "pay tribute" to something reasonably well-known.

Let's not bash SHAG, his artwork has always been very unique and original. The hanging skeleton most probably is nod or "wink" to those nostalgic fans who remember the board game growing up.

It would seem more likely to me that SHAG is himself an HM supergeek and was making an intentional nod to the other HM supergeeks and collectors who would actually buy 40th Anniversary HM merchandise... This sort of thing is exactly what a tribute (or nod, or reference) is. Yet another picture of the Hitchhiking Ghosts or a floating Leota head is not a tribute: it's simply a depiction.

Strictly speaking, to be libel, a statement must be demonstrably false and published with malicious intent. My statement is not demonstrably false. And publicly criticizing someone for doing something you think they did, and that you think they shouldn't have done, is not malice.
