Their offices are always closed from 12 - 1 for lunch I assume - I did call back today as I received 2 emails saying tickets were being held for me but they
said that it was actually just for me that the system just sent me the same message twice - got my hopes up there for a second. The guy did tell me that
several people have called in and canceled and that they haven't even begun to work on the wait lists - don't know if that is true or not or if he was
just giving me a line

DD,
I am glad that you received that email from WDES. I do not believe that was a line from the rep. because I do not doubt that some people have canceled, because they were set on going with someone else, or as a group. All the better from people that are on a waiting list. I am but one person, so I do not have the above issue, thank goodness. |

I have never been to a Huanted Mansion event. I have been a HUGE HM fan since I can remember and have been wanting to attend an event since i heard about the 30th anniversary event. During that hour I spent refreshing and trying to get in, the server crashed several times. Of the 3 conversations that I had with the rude special events agents, I was told that the response was 4 times what they had anticipated. I suggested that they add three more nights and they could quadruple their money, but they didn't really seem to care that there were so many people who were left out. After all they're merely mistreated cogs in the Disney corporate machine who get paid by the hour. I believe that several spots were already reserved for "cast members" before they even began registering guests, who are unfairly given preferential treatment. This is outrageous when considering the limited capacity for this event. When I attended A Pirates event in 1999, it was also a HUGE fiasco. Hundreds of us were forced to wait in line, baking under the hot sun for several hours, just to preview the freakin' merchandise. Than they were unable to fill completed orders. I was forced to get a hotel room and buy a ticket to return to the park the following day just get get the merchandise. But at least all who wanted to attend got to go. I vowed not to go to another one. I thought I would make an exception for this event, but alas... Disney management ALWAYS screws this stuff up. The more that I deal with Disney anymore, the more disgusted I get with them. It is all I can to not completely throw out any and all of the cheap Disney crap that I spent hard earned money on. |

T E,
I am sorry for your frustrating experiences with the registration process. It was indeed an interesting one, to say the least. I hope that you will be able to obtain a ticket to this event. The more I read about that pirates event, the happier I become for not having attended. But then like you said, at least everyone that had desired a ticket, was able to purchase one. But still, if that event is the one that I am thinking of, between food poisoning and being in the hot sun, amongst other not so positive incidents, no thank you to that event. |

Thematic Effects: The folks at Event Services are not mistreated cogs. They make decisions, and are responsible for the repeated screwups in events. And they
have attitudes that reflect resistance to change, and in no way correspond to the courtesy and professionalism that everyone should expect from every employee
of the Walt Disney Company.
I was also at the Pirate event (in 2000, by the way--it was the first Mansion event that was in 1999) and it was insanity. At 6:30 am I was the 125th person in line. A friend of mine was on line at 4:30 am, and she was 6th from the front. It was only through her kindness that I was able to purchase some of the most exclusive merchandise. I was lucky because I went to claim my merchandise very early--a half hour before the schedule start of distribution. But then, once they let us in, we had to stand there for an hour until the signed lithos eventually arrived (they were still shuttling them from person to person to have them signed). Eventually, around 3 pm, I finally got all my stuff and schlepped it across the street to my hotel. Managed to get it all home in one piece--who knows how. But I was lucky ... VERY lucky. The horror stories (yours among them) are legion. At least Disney had the decency to refund the cost of every single person's admission ticket for that event. Times have changed, and while they've gotten better at figuring how how to distribute the merchandise and get it all shipped (and so on), and putting on a great event (albeit with the usual scheduling screwups), they seem determined to keep their heads deeply buried when it comes to dealing with issues of registration. If I was a company selling something, that depended upon good customer relations, and witnessed what took place with registration for this event, and the unhappiness from potential customers that has been evidenced on this board, I would hang my head in shame. If I was the boss, I would fire everyone. There are lots of smart folks eager for a good job.

I just hope Disney acknowledges the problem rather than ignoring the whole thing and works to improve the process to make it a more pleasant experience for guests and ES. |

Artists are a sensitive lot, and treating artists like crap is not a great way to attract, and keep, talented people, or to even encourage inventiveness.
It's interesting, how wihen Disney was at the helm, he was able to attract so many talented people, who stayed with Disney. The Haunted Mansion is a
product of Marc Davis, Gracy, and others, who had worked with Walt. That 40 years later the tribute event was a sell out is a testiment to Walt, and the
talented people who created this Icon.

By the way, try after try, at least I was able to get the Hitchhiker package. A couple of times, it almost looked like I may have gotten Dearly Beloved, but the system kept shutting me out. |

T E,
Very well stated, and understandable. I am sorry to learn that Disney has lost such a otherwise dedicated, hardworking and enthusiastic worker. It can become quite problematic when working in corporate America. Ah, yes, where outsourcing is king, and illegal workers are becoming the new economy. Not to mention people that work in this country legally, being shafted by corporate cows. I would love to become my own boss. I am very much an independent thinker, even though sometimes, it can get me into trouble. I hope that your side business thrives. Maybe I will see your merchandise for sale on a nationwide basis. Maybe even on an international one. |

Thematic Effects wrote:yeah, I can second this. I dont know about theme park stuff, but I work in post production for movies and TV and have even worked on some disney stuff. Their reputation is about the worst among any that have dealt with many different movie and TV companies. People Ive met have nothing but horror stories that have worked for them in the past more directly (rather than just working at places they book like video and audio studios). I also knew someone that worked in animation for Disney for some years and his experience there made him get out of the business. They are known for being horrible in the TV and Film industries to work for, but I honestly didnt see that as connected to the theme park. But the organization and result of this event seems pretty horrible seeing as though this type of business should be second nature to them since theyve been doing it since 1955. And they have done Haunted Mansion merch events before not to mention countless other merchandise events. Theres just no excuse for the poor handling of this. If THEY cant do it right, then who could? They should be LEADERS in this type of stuff. and for the record, I know a cast member up on this party - and he said there was nothing he could find out about in the way of a bunch of cast members getting special treatment about this event. Doesnt mean cast members arent going, but hes pretty up on stuff and didnt know some secret way of attending. |

After reading some of the other forums, I am impressed. Obviously, there are many good and knowledgeable people who frequent this site. You're support of
myself and others is inspiring. I wish I could feel that way about the Disney company, but those waters have long since been washed away by all of my
experiences with them in recent years.
Gothikrose I will be exhibiting some of my new items at the Transworld Halloween shows in LV and St Louis this March. Much of my stuff is HM inspired and I think you would like it. If you can attend, I would welcome a visit. Pulledtobits I stand corrected (to my knowledge) regarding the cast member preferences. That came from other incorrect info that I had received. But I could tell you a plethora of additional stories about the D company that are very discouraging, most of which are rooted in fact. But this is not the time and place for that... yet. Im biting my tongue for now. But I do not know if I can keep on doing so if these awful experiences with them continue. Best to all of you and cheers!

I was able to get two Hitchhikers for myself and a friend. I got through while my friend did not. We hedged our bets by each logging in from seperate home
computers. His could never get though while mine got though twice. Before you start blaming the staff you should also take into account the randomness of the
phone connections. I'm sorry for those still in limbo but I for one am very excited to celebrate the 40th anni. at the park and open my wallet for some
great items. (Some of which I know I will not get simply because of the RSP and limited editions.

Myself and my lady friend were able to get two GG packages after getting in and getting confirmation numbers but of course no credit card info came up. That night we got our e-mails and paid the next morning. We were very lucky! We were on the phone to eachother the entire time and were both trying from seprate computers. |

I'll be in the dark zone in St Louis. The booth # in LV may change due to the lack of other haunt vendors registering for that show (unfortunately).
My Co. names are Thematic Effects and Imagineerie. My products will be very Haunted Mansion-like. What about you guys? Where will you guys be? Name? Products? Maybe a new thread is a good idea... |
