Personally, just to see what happens, I'd like to see a collaboration between Danny Elfman and Genndy Tartakovsky.
While animation isn't quite Elfman's main forte in terms of music, it isn't a genre he's shy to (TNBC, Corpse Bride, Meet the Robinsons, The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series, Beetlejuice: The Animated Series and the underground Sally Cruikshank short, Face Like a Frog). And Tartakovsky, while showing strong chops for both science fiction and fantasy, doesn't have quite the same overlaying dark and wicked sensibility that Elfman's known for. Yet, these two guys have a strong common thread in their 'retro hip' style that makes something classic-inspired seem like something that's 'never before seen', and of course there's the recurring deep appreciation of the 'outcast' in their work. If nothing else, I'm SURE it would tickle Genndy to work with an actual redheaded, bespectacled, and reclusive genius (yes, I said it, Danny Elfman looks like Dexter).
Side note: While Tartakovsky and Elfman haven't yet officially worked in collaboration, they have been part of the same project. One of Tartakovsky's first jobs in the world of animation was on Batman: The Animated Series. Elfman, of course, wrote the theme for the show.
Those were my two cents (plus tax), now what do YOU think? What collaborations that haven't come to fruition would you like to see, or would rather read three Ayn Rand novels back-to-back than see it happen?
